Celebrity Rides: Rob Dyrdek

Posted by Cory Lowe - 02 September, 2014

Professional skateboarder and pop culture personality Rob Dyrdek has built a successful career that encompasses nearly every corner of the entertainment world. Given all of that success, it is unsurprising that the realty show host has accumulated a number of unique and impressive vehicles.

Rob Dyrdek has been known as a fan of matte paint jobs since he started collecting his custom rides. The skateboarder’s 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, customized two separate times in wildly different styles, is arguably the best example of that love of matte finishes.

The first incarnation of Dyrdek’s Tahoe was a matte white theme dubbed the “storm trooper.” The SUV’s nickname is derived from the flat white paint job and coordinating black rims that make the over-sized Tahoe look more than a little like science fiction’s “storm troopers.” The Tahoe wasn't destined to stay white for long, however.

After enjoying the matte white look for a while, Dyrdek redid his 2007 Tahoe in sleek “murdered out” styling. A vehicle that is “murdered out” has a matte black paint job, black rims, dark black tinted windows, and a distinct lack of chrome accents. The trend of matte “murdered out” car styling is perfectly exemplified by Dyrdek’s conspicuously chrome-free Tahoe. The amount of understated black on black is eye-catching and cool thanks to, not in spite of, its dark and masculine appearance.

Another great example of Rob Dyrdek’s matte black signature car look is the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RallySport Dyrdek had custom painted in black and red before it was sold. The car was originally a glossy black, but that did not last for long before Dyrdek gave it a head-to-toe makeover. A little more flamboyant than his “murdered out” Tahoe, the classic racing sports car looks as powerful and growling as it is thanks to the pops of red on the rims and body.

The four door design of the white Porsche Panamera Turbo owned by Rob Dyrdek stands out for being extravagantly large for an exotic sports car. In the monochromatic style Dyrdek is now well known for implementing on his custom cars, the Porsche Panamera is painted a bright glossy white and sits on large matte white rims. Even though some car-loving fans have criticized Dyrdek’s choice in four-door sports car, contending there are much more interesting and attractive designs available from Porsche and other companies, the car still looks gorgeous and unique both on the road and in photographs.

Rob Dyrdek uses his love of unique cars to promote his businesses, look remarkably cool driving around, and raise money for good causes. The kind of matte paint jobs, Rob Dyrdek continues to makeover and reinvent his impressive, and ever changing, collection of cars.
